Bandits never lead in loss to KnightHawks

Rochester closed the first half with three unanswered goals and went on to an 18-13 National Lacrosse League win over the Buffalo Bandits Saturday night before 8,337 at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.

Austin Shanks led the Knighthawks with seven goals and an assist and Hamburg native Joe Resetarits chipped in with three goals and four assists.

There were 29 penalties called in the rugged affair, 16 roughing, and two 5-minute majors against the Bandits.

Buffalo never led. Shanks scored twice in the game’s first 4:12 to get Rochester in front. The Bandits tied it a third time at 6-all before the Knighthawks closed the second quarter with goals by Scott Campbell, Graeme Hossack and Cody. Jamieston.

Corey Small’s second goal got Buffalo to 10-8, in the third quarter but the Bandits were outscored 8-5 the rest of the way.’

Thomas Hoggarth scored three times for Buffalo. Besides Small, Mitch de Snoo had a pair of goals for Buffalo. Shawn Evans had a goal and four assists.

Rochester’s Angus Goodleaf had 43 saves. Matt Vinc started in goal for Buffalo and had 23 saves in 43:25. Zach Higgins made seven stops the rest of the way.

Buffalo converted 3 of 6 power-play chances while the Knighthawks were 3 for 7.

The loss dropped the Bandits to 4-2 on the season. The win ended a three-game losing streak for Rochester (2-3). Buffalo defeated Rochester, 13-4, when they met on Jan. 4 at KeyBank Center.
