Unsuccessful challenger in county clerk's race gets a county job

Angela Marinucci, a former corporate immigration lawyer who waged an aggressive campaign last year against Erie County Clerk Michael "Mickey" Kearns, has been hired by the Poloncarz administration for an administrative job.

She was hired as a special assistant for personnel in the Erie County Personnel Department. Her salary will be $68,000.

Marinucci, a political newcomer, lost to Kearns in November with 49 percent of the vote.

Marinucci's educational background is in political science, public policy and law.

While she has no formal training in human resources, county spokesman Peter Anderson said her legal background will help the Personnel Department update policies, advise the next personnel commissioner on Civil Service law and help with the overall functions of the department.

County Executive Mark Poloncarz is also expected to name a new commissioner of personnel due to the retirement this month of Commissioner David A. Palmer.
