I’m so excited to learn the governor has proposed to raise the age for the sale of e-cigarettes and tobacco products to 21!
The number of young people I see trying e-cigarettes or other tobacco products is concerning and frankly scary. Kids are lured by their candy and dessert flavors, which allows the products to be more palatable and easier to try.
Tobacco 21 is a promising step to keep our kids away from tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, and, hopefully, stop them before they start.
Numerous counties and municipalities across the state have already adopted Tobacco 21. Given about 95 percent of smokers started smoking before the age of 21, increasing the age makes sense.
I hope state lawmakers support this measure and pass a statewide law to help protect our kids from tobacco and all of these new products.
