State Golden Gloves Tournament starts Sunday at Riverworks

The New York State Golden Gloves tournament begins at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Buffalo Riverworks, 359 Ganson St.

The amateur tournament, which features subnovice, novice and open divisions, includes boxers from all parts of the state sans New York City. The New York City area has its own state Golden Gloves Tournament.

Sunday will be the first of three tournament dates at Riverworks. The second round is March 17 with the finals slated for April 21. Open division champions advance to the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions May 6-12 in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Advance tickets cost as low as $25 (general admission) and $35 (ringside). The prices increase to $30 and $40 if purchased the day of the event. VIP tickets are also available for $45 (advance purchase) and $50 (day of the event). Tickets can be purchased at Carubba Collision (876-0700), Doris Records (883-2410) and Ticketfly.com.
