North Tonawanda seeks public art for Oliver Street displays

The City of North Tonawanda is seeking submissions from artists for pieces to be installed this spring in windows of vacant or underused buildings on Oliver Street, in hopes of enlivening the stretch as "a walking art gallery."

About 24 works are being sought for "Art on Oliver Street" between Thompson and Wheatfield streets. The plan also calls for a large mural on the side of a building and a 3-D window display. The effort is funded through a $50,000 grant from Oath, formerly Yahoo, announced last summer.

Submissions will be reviewed by a committee of local artists, community leaders and business owners. Application information is online at lumbercitydc.com. The deadline is March 1.
