The inaugural Niagara Footprint Festival heats up Beaver Island State Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday for a day of events that include a guided waterfowl walk, farmers market, dog sledding and Blue Heron Disc Golf tournament.
Walkers should bring binoculars and stop in the old Beaver Island Casino by 8:45 a.m. to discover the beauty of tundra swans and up to 20 species of gulls.
Arts and crafts will be offered for the kids. Visitors will be able to watch ice sculpting demonstrations by the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute and catch a free carriage ride to the historical farmhouse River Lea, where a bonfire, bluegrass and blacksmithing are planned.
The festival was organized in conjunction with Birds on the Niagara, a birding event which takes place Friday and Saturday at various locations from Youngstown to Buffalo.
