Niagara Falls man sentenced to three years for two gun arrests

Demetrius R. Hayes of Niagara Falls, who pleaded guilty to two gun-related felonies, was sentenced Wednesday by Niagara County Sara Sheldon to three years in state prison.

Hayes, 30, of Weston Avenue, was on probation for firing shots near a group of people on Whitney Avenue in the Falls on July 16, 2016, when he was arrested Jan. 14, 2018, after a traffic stop in Niagara Falls for possessing an unregistered handgun.

Sheldon tacked on five years of post-release supervision for Hayes, who admitted to first-degree reckless endangerment and attempted second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
