Lewiston Art Festival to include Iroquois market

The Lewiston Council on the Arts announced this week it will add an Iroquois market to this year's Lewiston Art Festival, set for Aug. 10 and 11.

The market, to be set up around the Hennepin Park gazebo, will feature traditional Native American drumming, music and dance, along with hands-on activities for visitors.

The Arts Council is working with Tuscarora Sand Turtle Runner Neil Patterson and White Bear Clan Mother Francene Patterson to line up Native artisans from both sides of the U.S.-Canada border to display their wares at the market.

"We are so excited to share these traditions with our community so they may better understand the people, the customs and the beauty of Native American culture," said Irene Rykaszewski, executive director of the Arts Council.
