Former Sweet Home track coach Brian Lombardo joins UB staff

Brian Lombardo, who resigned in July as the track and field coach at Sweet Home, has been named an assistant coach at the University at Buffalo, UB announced Wednesday.

He will be in charge of coaching the jumps and combined events for UB.

Lombardo’s resignation as a teacher and coach was met with surprise and disappointment by members of the Sweet Home community. More than 30 people spoke at a packed school board meeting in July to share their personal stories with the board. Lombardo has steadfastly refused to comment on the reasons for his departure.

According to a UB news release, Lombardo coached 82 Section VI champions, 45 state medalists, 10 state champions and 10 All-Americans and had a six-year undefeated streak in dual meets. Before going to Sweet Home, he also coached track and volleyball at Canisius High, his alma mater.
