A teenage girl who was raped by her baby sitter when she was 10 said Wednesday she has attempted suicide three times and has undergone inpatient psychiatric treatment.
"I felt I couldn't live with myself," the girl told Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon. "I finally realized that it was not my fault I was raped."
Sheldon sentenced Anthony L. Fusarelli, 26, of North Avenue, North Tonawanda, to five years in prison and 15 years of post-release supervision. The judge said Fusarelli himself was a child abuse victim.
"It perpetuates itself," Sheldon said.
She cited a psychologist's report on Fusarelli, who raped the girl after she was dropped off at his home in 2012 or 2013.
"The doctor said this will never happen again, that you're not a pedophile," Sheldon said.
