Investigators probe cause of Subway fire in Allegany

Fire investigators are still trying to determine what started a blaze that engulfed a Subway restaurant in Allegany on Saturday afternoon.

People who were inside the restaurant when the fire began escaped without injury, said Gordon Scott, a spokesman for the Allegany Volunteer Fire Department, one of several fire companies whose units came to the scene.

The restaurant is at 3015 Route 417, also known as West State Street, near the Olean city line.

A message to Subway's media relations department was not returned on Sunday.
