Two people were charged with cocaine possession Wednesday night after their car struck a Buffalo police vehicle, according to a police report.

Police reported an officer saw Jose Cruz Jr., 52, run a stop sign at Fulton and Red Jacket streets at about 9:15 p.m. When police tried to initiate a traffic stop, Cruz's car hit the front of the police vehicle and caused "extensive damage," according to the report.

After the collision, two other officers saw a plastic bag thrown out from the passenger side window. Police said they also found cocaine and marijuana in Cruz's pockets.

Cruz was charged with fourth- and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, driving without a license, reckless driving and failing to stop at a stop sign. The passenger, Jamie L. Lamberty, 35, was charged with fourth-degree drug possession, according to the report.
