'Total loss' reported in Lake View house fire; no injuries reported

The American Red Cross was assisting four Lake View residents after a Thursday morning fire consumed their West Lane home.

Firefighters from multiple companies arrived at S-5754 West Lane shortly after 8:15 a.m. to find flames pouring from the rear of the home.

"We got here, we had heavy fire in the back of the house. Everybody was out of the house," said Mark Szczepanik, fire chief of the Lake View Fire District.

Szczepanik said no one was home at the time of the fire and firefighters weren't aware of any pets, except a goldfish, inside the structure.

"The fire in currently under investigation," Szczepanik said. "The house is likely to be a total loss."

The estimated damage was about $150,000, according to John Wicka, secretary for the Lake View Fire District.

Wicka said he was told by the Hamburg Building Department that the property was scheduled to be demolished on Friday.

About eight volunteer fire companies responded to the blaze.
