Vikings game vaults Bills pass rush near top of NFL in pressure rate

The Buffalo Bills wreaked havoc on Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins all afternoon in their stunning 27-6 victory in Minneapolis.

According to Pro Football Focus, the Bills pressured Cousins on 32 of his 60 drop backs, which equates to a 53.3 percent pressure rate.

Over the past two games, Buffalo has pressured the opposing signal-caller on 44 of 90 drop backs, good for a 48.8 percent pressure rate. The Bills pressured Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers on 12 of 30 drop backs in Week Two.

Defensive end Jerry Hughes had an absolutely dominant performance with a whopping 13 pressures – one sack, two, hits, and 10 hurries – on 40 pass-rush snaps. Hughes is currently tied with Chicago Bears linebacker Khalil Mack for the league lead in quarterback pressures with 20, and he's done so on eight-fewer pass-rush snaps (80 for Hughes vs. 88 for Mack).

Linebacker Lorenzo Alexander was super disruptive as well with nine pressures – all hurries.

Heading into Week Four, the Bills are tied for second with a 41.22 percent pressure rate, slightly behind the Pittsburgh Steelers at 41.25 percent. The league pressure-rate average is 32.9 percent, up from 30.8 percent before Week Three.

Against the Vikings, quarterback Josh Allen was pressured on nine of 30 drop backs, or 30 percent of the times he dropped back to pass.

Offensive tackle Dion Dawkins was credited with two allowed pressures – one sack and one hurry. Guard John Miller and offensive tackle Jordan Mills did not surrender a pressure.

Through three games, Buffalo's quarterbacks have dealt with pressure on 43 of 113 drop backs, which is a pressure rate of 38.0 percent. As the below table shows, that'd be right in between the sixth and seventh highest in the NFL.

The Bills play the Green Bay Packers in Week Four. Green Bay is currently 22nd in defensive pressure rate at 31.0 percent. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been pressured 33.5 percent of the time (44 times on 131 drop backs) thus far in the 2018 season.
