Charter school custodian charged with stealing from school

A custodian at REACH Academy Charter School was charged Wednesday with stealing tools, supplies and other items from the school on four occasions earlier this month, according to a Buffalo police report.

John L. Garner, 48, was arrested Wednesday night at the Central District station. Garner has been accused of entering the school on Ash Street four times on three dates after hours, according to the report.

The alleged thefts occurred Sept. 18, 22 and 23. On one occasion, Garner is accused of taking $500 in postage stamps. In several of the incidents, Garner disarmed the building's alarm before entering.

Garner was charged with third-degree burglary and fourth-degree grand larceny, both felonies.
