There are few questions the media can ask that will prompt a smile from Syracuse men's basketball head coach Jim Boeheim.
But when it comes to food, the legendary Orange leader seems to be more than willing to chat.
In an interview with Syracuse.com's Mike Waters, Boeheim revealed his favorite places to eat in the cities in which his team plays. Leaning toward steakhouses and Italian restaurants as a whole, Boeheim noted Siena, at 4516 Main St. in Amherst, as his preferred Buffalo-area dining destination.
What Boeheim may not know is his favorite Buffalo-area restaurant is in a legal battle in which Siena owners Chuck Mauro and Henry Gorino have been tangled with First Amherst Development over the purchase of the building, in which the restaurant most recently savored a victory.
Despite the outside-the-dining-room drama, Siena continues to serve its classic Northern Italian menu, which earned eight plates from News food editor Andrew Galarneau in 2014.
In 2017, the Orange reignited what was once a longstanding annual meeting between Syracuse and the University at Buffalo; the two teams squared off for the first time since 2001. SU holds a 28-5 all-time record against the Bulls, dating back to 1917, long before Boeheim was the coach.
