Phatman Boardshop buys a building a mile from its Tonawanda shop

Phatman Boardshop might skate away from its longtime Town of Tonawanda location, but the company isn't revealing its plans yet.

The seller of skateboards, snowboards and other accessories once had stores in Lockport, Orchard Park, Amherst and Tonawanda. But the leased shop at 2889 Sheridan Drive is the only one left.

Last week, Bob and Fran Knab paid $200,000 for a 5,400-square-foot building at 4430 Bailey Ave., south of Eggert Road and a mile from its current shop, public documents show.

Frank Knab, a pro snowboarder who has owned Phatman with his parents since 2008, said they weren't ready to say what they're doing with either property: "It's a cliffhanger – no pun intended."

Customers can expect an announcement later this year. "It's going to be a great Christmas present," he said.
