Driver who crashed near Canisius charged with intoxicated, impaired driving

A Town of Tonawanda man who jumped a curb and crashed into a brick wall and pole in front of Canisius College on Tuesday afternoon was charged with intoxicated and impaired driving, according to a Buffalo police report.

Salvatore Greco, 48, apparently lost consciousness at about 12:30 p.m. while driving north on Jefferson Avenue near Main Street. Greco became combative with first responders and claimed he wasn't involved in an accident but had been pulled over by police. A small glass vial of heroin and a hypodermic needle were found in the vehicle, according to the police report.

Greco, who had an outstanding warrant out of Watertown, was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired by drugs, reckless driving, resisting arrest, aggravated unlicensed operation, obstruction of governmental administration, criminal mischief and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
