Buffalo man gets 6 years in prison for carrying 200 envelopes of heroin

A Buffalo man who was arrested in the Towne Gardens apartments with more than 200 envelopes of heroin last year was sentenced to six years in prison Tuesday by State Supreme Court Justice Russell P. Buscaglia, Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn said.

Julian Rivera, 28, pleaded guilty in August to a third-degree count of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

On April 7, 2017, members of the now-disbanded Buffalo Police Strike Force unit were on patrol in the Towne Gardens when, according to prosecutors, they saw Rivera carrying a bag near Curry Walk. As they approached, Rivera ran but was taken into custody on McCarley Walk.

"Officers found over 200 envelopes of heroin, packaged to sell, inside the bag," Flynn said in a statement.
