SAFRAN - Geraldine Age 94, of Silver Spring, MD, passed away on September 10, 2018. Loving and adored mother of Diane Lenzner (Charles) Cohen of Wellington, FL and Michael B. (Jennifer) Lenzner of Jupiter, FL; special Nana of Alexis R. Cohen (Robert Platt) of Washington, DC; also survived by nieces and nephews; she is preceded by her parents David A. and Charlotte (Willer) Silverman; her sister and brother-in-law Mildred and Henry Males; and her beloved husband, Nathaniel Safran, MD. Geraldine was born and raised in Buffalo, NY, graduating from Bennett High School. While attending classes at the University of Arizona, she worked for IBM in Arizona during WWII. Gerri pursued many interests during her long life. She was an avid gardener, so she had fresh flowers from spring to fall, was a gourmet chef preparing wonderful meals and parties. A pioneering professional single mother, she worked in real estate before becoming the Administrator of Sheridan Manor Nursing Home (Tonawanda NY). After retiring from the nursing home in 1987, Gerri moved to Saratoga Springs, NY, starting a new adventure first as a hotel desk clerk and, when the opportunity arose, she became the owner and operator of the antique shop inside the Gideon Putnam Hotel in Saratoga Springs. In 1999, Gerri relocated to Chapel Hill, NC with her sister and continued her antique business, joining other small antique businesses in a cooperative store. In 2004, Gerri relocated to the Riderwood Continuing Care Retirement Community in Silver Springs, MD where she enjoyed the various activities, and shared her love and knowledge of antiques with the Riderwood Treasure Chest. Throughout her life, Gerri loved to travel, enjoyed meals in fabulous restaurants, loved her children, and shopped till she dropped for shoes and antiques. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 28, 2018, at Birchwood, Forest Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo, NY at 2:00 P.M. Donations may be made to the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (bpo.org).
