The City of Lockport's search firm received 15 applications for police chief, none of them from current members of the city's police force, Mayor David R. Wohleben said Saturday.
Wohleben said the deadline for applications is Sept. 30, but screening will begin sooner.
The mayor said representatives from the California-based search firm, Public Sector Search and Consulting, will be in Lockport Tuesday and Wednesday to begin winnowing the field and selecting candidates who will be offered interviews. The Police Board and search firm members will question the candidates in October.
"I will hire a police chief before I leave as mayor," declared Wohleben, whose term expires Dec. 31.
Interim Chief Steven C. Preisch said he does not want the post.
