Letter: Church secrecy is held more sacred than morality

Bishop Richard Malone’s decision to increase the security of files pertaining to the clergy sex abuse scandal is incredibly tone deaf.

Doubling down on secrecy is a perplexing strategy. The Catholic Church can only recover from its mishandling of abusing priests by fully opening its files.

Too many children were harmed by the diocesan shell game of transferring abusive priests between parishes. In maintaining secrecy, it appears as though the Buffalo Diocese is more concerned about financial bankruptcy instead of moral bankruptcy.
