Letter: Changes in church are needed to save it

While I have always been able to separate the sins of man from the church itself, recent revelations about children still being put in harm’s way by reassigning priests and the writing of glowing letters of recommendation for questionable clergy members has shaken my confidence in the church.

This can not and should not be allowed to continue. These unethical actions and decisions tarnish the amazing things that the Catholic Church does worldwide on a daily basis.

When priests are accused, police should be immediately contacted. The church over many years has proven that they oftentimes are unable to do the right thing. Internal investigations and “consequences” should be a thing of the past.

If changes are not made, I am afraid this could be the blow that knocks the church out.
