Armstrong tapped by Seneca Party for Seneca Nation president

The Seneca Party tapped former Seneca Nation President Rickey Armstrong Sr. as its candidate for president following a party caucus on Friday in which more than 1,500 party members voted at polling sites on the Cattaraugus and Allegany territories. Armstrong previously served as Seneca Nation President from 2002-2004.

“The Seneca Nation has some very important issues ahead of us,” said Armstrong. “I am ready to tackle those issues head-on to provide a stronger future for all Seneca people.”

Todd Gates is the current president of the Seneca Nation.

Eight candidates also were selected to run for seats on the Seneca Nation Council.

Candidates from the Allegany Territory are: Tina Abrams, Billy Canella, Josh Jimerson and Angie Kennedy.

Ross John Sr., Bobby Jones, Llona Leroy and John Williams Jr. are candidates to represent the Cattaraugus Territory.
