Thin lineups in Toronto foreshadow Eichel-Matthews matchup Saturday in Buffalo

TORONTO -- The Sabres and Maple Leafs won't have deep lineups for Friday night's preseason game in the newly-named Scotiabank Arena. What does that mean for Buffalo fans?

They will see Rasmus Dahlin in the rematch Saturday in KeyBank Center -- as well as the head-to-head matchup of good friends and All-Star Game teammates Jack Eichel and Austin Matthews.

Update: Late Friday afternoon, the Leafs announced their lineup for *Saturday's* game and confirmed Matthews will be in the lineup. So will former Sabre Tyler Ennis, Patrick Marleau, Jake Gardiner and starting goaltender Frederik Andersen.

Dahlin, Eichel and Matthews are all sitting out Friday night's game. The Sabres' top line will have Casey Mittelstadt between Alexander Nylander and Tage Thompson, while Toronto's top line will  feature John Tavares between Zach Hyman and Mitch Marner.

Mike Harrington: Eichel and Matthews make their point

Zemgus Girgensons and Vladimir Sobotka are among those who will suit up at forward for the Sabres while the top defense pair will be Brendan Guhle with Casey Nelson. Linus Ullmark will start in goal.

Veterans playing for the Leafs tonight include Nazem Kadri, Morgan Rielly and Ron Hainsey, with normal backup Curtis McElhinney in goal.

Both games of the home-and-home will be televised on MSG, with the network picking up the Leafs' telecasts from Sportsnet. Dan Dunleavy and Rob Ray have the Sabres' call on WGR Radio 550.
