Motorcyclist injured in Niagara Falls hit-and-run road rage incident

A 30-year-old Niagara Falls motorcyclist was struck by a van driver and ejected off his motorcycle during a road-rage incident Thursday morning in Niagara Falls.

The collision happened at about 2 a.m. on Buffalo Avenue near Hyde Park Boulevard. After striking the motorcyclist – identified in a police report as Robert C. Hartman – the van driver fled the scene, Hartman told police.

Hartman told officers he was driving west on Buffalo Avenue when the van driver was following too closely and tried to pass him, according to a police report. After the motorcyclist began "flipping him off," the driver of the dark-colored van hit him and fled the scene heading north on Hyde Park Boulevard, according to the report.

Hartman suffered "injuries to his lower extremities," police said in a news release. He was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center. He remained hospitalized Friday morning.

Investigators ask anyone who might have information about what happened to call 286-4711 or 286-4563.
