CNBC host insults Buffalo and Buffalo squawks back

Joe Kernen, co-host of CNBC's "Squawk Box," took a shot at Buffalo.

And Buffalo squawked back.

Kernen was reading a report Wednesday morning that included some good news regarding Buffalo, when he decided to editorialize about Western New York.

The report was about how Buffalo Niagara International Airport finished second overall in JD Power's customer satisfaction survey.

Kernen said that California's John Wayne Airport earned the top overall spot, "edging out Buffalo Niagara International Airport. ... If anyone actually goes there, to see how they do. ... I guess people still fly to Buffalo."

His slight begins at the end of this clip, tweeted by the network.

Some of the reactions on Twitter were, well, rather strong.

WGRZ-TV's Kate Welshofer was one of those hotter than fire-emojis over the slight Wednesday, and she also posted a video in response Thursday morning.

In the full clip of the segment, Kernen's slight is challenged by co-host Becky Quick.

"We just mentioned it as one of the top travel locations," she said of Buffalo.

"No, I love Buffalo," Kernen backtracked, before show-shoveling his hole perhaps a little deeper: "But it's cold ... and a lot of snow off their lake."

Kernen continued his stumble off to Buffalo when Quick mentioned Buffalo wings.

"Buffalo wings. Are they really from Buffalo?"
