Bennett High School placed on lockdown after phone threat

Bennett High School was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon following a telephone threat that was called into the Middle Early College Office at the campus, a spokeswoman for the Buffalo Public School District reported.

Elena Cala, special assistant to the superintendent for public relations, said administration and staff within the building engaged protocols that included notifying the Buffalo Police Department, the FBI and the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, which deployed bomb-sniffing dogs to the school.

A sweep of the building was conducted and the scene was declared safe. Students were released for the day slightly later than usual, Cala said.
