Cichon exits WECK, takes communications job at Timon-St. Jude

Steve Cichon has left his part-time job as news director at WECK-AM/FM (AM 1230/FM 102.9 and 100.5 FM) after seven months at the station.

The veteran radio broadcaster resigned his latest radio job to take a full-time job as communications director for Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School in South Buffalo.

Cichon, who replaced John Zach in February, said the high school opening needed to be filled immediately, “which I was happy to oblige.”

“Three days into my new job, I’m really enjoying sleeping past 4 a.m.,” wrote Cichon in a text message. “I wish my former WECK co-workers the best.”

Cichon, who left WBEN in 2013, anchored the news on WECK's morning show.

Besides working at WBEN, Cichon has worked for several other news organizations in town, including freelance work for The Buffalo News, over a more than 20-year radio and TV career.

Buddy Shula, who owns WECK, said he has had many inquiries about the job but hasn’t hired anyone to replace Cichon yet.
