Man, 61, dies in accidental drowning in Jamestown

A body recovered Monday morning in Jamestown has been ruled an accidental drowning, Jamestown Police said Tuesday.

The body of Robert Cavender, 61, was recovered Monday morning by Jamestown Police following a 6:30 a.m. report of a body floating in the Chadakoin River in the area of the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Institute Street.

The body was taken to the Erie County Medical Examiners office in Buffalo Tuesday, where an autopsy was performed and investigators found, according to a statement by Jamestown Police, that "the death was accidental and no criminal activity is involved." Investigators found that Cavender had fallen into the river at some point overnight, police said.
