Jeff Miers’ Playlist: Paul McCartney’s ‘Egypt Station’ edition

McCartney’s latest is brimming with imagination, experimentation and a palpable sense of joy. Working with co-producer Greg Kurstin, and playing most of the instruments himself, Sir Paul digs deep and finds some real gold. Here are my five favorites from a stellar addition to the Macca canon.

“Dominoes”

McCartney on acoustic guitar, his still potent falsetto tracing a gorgeous melody.

“Do It Now”

An epic ballad bathed in gorgeous harmony vocals, as McCartney sings of the sense of urgency necessary to seize the day.

“Back in Brazil”

A multi-movement take on a relationship’s ups and downs. Wonderfully weird.

“Caesar Rock”

A soulful rocker, built on a pun. (“She’s a rock.”)

“Hunt You Down/Naked/C-Link”

“Egypt Station” ends on an incredibly ambitious note. Some gorgeous McCartney guitar playing, too.
