Delta Sonic employee gets probation for oil spill

An oil spill into Cayuga Creek in Niagara Falls two years ago led to the arrest of Michael Yount of Lancaster.

Yount, a Deltic Sonic employee at the time, was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford to two years of probation and 100 hours of community service benefiting the environment.

Young, who was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango, admitted making false statements to state Department of Environmental Conservation officials about the extent of the spill.

Prosecutors said the spill, estimated at between 300 and 500 gallons of waste oil, took place about a half mile from a Delta Sonic location on Niagara Falls Boulevard. They said the company's oil change shop was undergoing renovation at the time.
