Vallas scores pair in Niagara Wheatfield soccer win

Niagara Wheatfield, the first-place team in the Niagara Division of the Niagara Frontier League, triumphed at Kenmore East, 3-1, to improve to 6-1 in boys soccer play on Monday.

Junior forward Jacob Vallas scored twice for the Falcons with senior midfielder Alexis Leon assisting on each goal. Leon scored the other goal for N-W.

The loss dropped Kenmore East to 3-2 in NFL play behind first-place Lew-Port in the Frontier Division.

Quinn Neelon scored in overtime to give No. 1 ranked WNY large school Clarence a 3-2 victory over visiting Williamsville North and keeping the Red Devils undefeated at 7-0, 5-0 in ECIC I. Taha Ahmed, who scored the first two Clarence goals, assisted on the winner.

Danyluk’s goal wins

Sophomore Claire Danyluk scored at 5:23 of the second overtime to give first-place Hamburg (8-0, 6-0) a 2-1 victory over at Williamsville East (4-1-1) in a battle of undefeated ECIC II girls soccer teams. Eve Bierl assisted on the winner.

Maddie Ingraham scored in the 35th minute with an assist by Abby Kane for the Bulldogs, but Emma Scalione tied it for the Flames at 25:33 of the second half. Laura Mecca made five saves in goal for Hamburg.

No. 1 ranked Clarence (5-0 ECIC I) edged visiting Williamsville North, 4-3 on Emma Faso’s third goal of the game with four minutes left. … Natalie Milne scored both goals for City Honors (4-0) in a 2-1 nonleague victory over Sacred Heart at Riverside Stadium.

Frontier volleyball on top

Frontier, ranked third in the WNY Coaches Poll, scored a key ECIC I boys volleyball victory in four sets at Clarence, 25-20, 22-25, 25-19, 25-17. As Brian Norsen had 14 kills, 6 digs and a block. Nick LaPaglia had six kills, an ace and a block for the Falcons.
Urschel to speak

Retired Baltimore Ravens guard John Urschel will give the keynote speech at the Canisius High School Fr. Sturm Legacy Luncheon at noon today in the Lexus Club at KeyBank Center. The 2009 Trench Trophy winner played at Canisius before starring at Penn State.

The luncheon supports the Fr. John G. Sturm, S.J. ‘35 Legacy Fund which provides tuition assistance to Nativity/ Miguel Middle School students who enroll at Canisius High and supports athletic programs at the school.

South hockey tops Holland

Chloe McKenna and Elizabeth Jackson each scored a goal for No. 4 ranked Williamsville South in a 2-0 ECIC field hockey victory at Holland. Keegan Gillman was in goal for the shutout.
