Pilot of 'Risky Builders' to be tested Thursday in prime time on HGTV

Three months after “Risky Builders” aired on a Sunday afternoon, Western New York house flippers Chris and Lorissa Naugle are getting a shot in prime time on HGTV.

The pilot episode that aired in late June is being repeated at 8:30 p.m. Thursday on HGTV.

Here’s an edited version of the summary of the episode from HGTV: “Along with their best friend Blair, the Naugles have successfully bought, renovated and sold more than 40 homes in the last year alone. With an eye for design and a much younger, hipper aesthetic than what Western New York is used to seeing, this trio is cashing in on the current red-hot Buffalo real estate market.”

The repeat on Thursday could be a test of whether HGTV will commission more episodes.

The pilot episode was a hit in Western New York. However, HGTV didn’t provide a national rating.

The 30-minute pilot, which featured the renovation of a Clarence Center home, had a strong 3.3 live local rating, which is unusually high for a Sunday afternoon program here on cable or broadcast television. It kept the same rating for each 15-minute segment.

"Risky Builders," which was heavily publicized by the media here, won its time slot. To put the local rating in even more perspective, many prime-time programs on broadcast television fail to get a rating that high here in the summer.

The Naugles own FlipOut Academy at Eastern Hills Mall, along with local artist Blair Rusin of Art by Blair, and rehab and resell homes in the Buffalo market. They all live in Williamsville.
