Tim Hortons has kicked off its annual Smile Cookie campaign to benefit Erie County Medical Center's future trauma center and emergency department.
The $1 cookies will be sold at Tim Hortons stores in Western New York through Sunday with all proceeds going toward the project.
Construction began on the new Trauma Center and Emergency Department in June. It will double the current facility's size, helping the hospital serve patient populations that are on track to double the maximum capacity it planned to handle when it was built 40 years ago.
Work on the $55 million project is expected to be complete in 2020. It has already received nearly $10 million in local philanthropic support.
