The Minnesota Vikings have opened as a 16.5-point favorite over the visiting Buffalo Bills for Week 3 in lines posted at the Westgate SuperBook. The Mirage also has a 16.5-point spread.
The over-under opened at 38.5 but had moved up to 40.5 as the night wore on Sunday.
But, that's not the largest margin the Bills have been an underdog, dating back to 1980, according to Playbook's Marc Lawrence, a [BN] Blitz contributor.
The Bills were an 18-point underdog at Miami in the 1985 season finale and lost 28-0. Buffalo has been an underdog of 16 or more four times since 1980 and is 0-4 against the spread in those games and was outscored 160-24.
The largest spread since 1980 was Denver favored by 26.5 against Jacksonville in 2013. New England, in its near-perfect season in 2007, was a 25-point favorite against Philadelphia. There have been a total of 11 teams favored by 20 points or more. The favorites are 0-7 against the spread.
