Wallet goes missing after man drops it outside Niagara Falls store

NIAGARA FALLS – A city man told police he had just picked up money from a Western Union outlet Saturday evening when he left a Pine Avenue store, losing his wallet in the process. By the time he realized it was missing, someone already had taken it.

The victim, a Fifth Street resident, told police he went into the Rite Aid store at 17th Street and Pine Avenue at 6:20 p.m. to retrieve some money, apparently dropping his wallet as he left the store. About an hour later, he returned, but the wallet was gone. A check of store surveillance video showed a woman familiar to both store personnel and police picking up the wallet and leaving the area.

The wallet contained $140 in cash and various personal effects, police said. An investigation continued Sunday.
