Buffalo's City Hall going orange for National Welcoming Week

The Buffalo City Hall dome will be lit orange the color of the Olympic refugee team flag as part of the city's celebration of National Welcoming Week 2018, which runs through Sept. 23.

Welcoming Week raises awareness in U.S. cities of the benefits to welcoming the nation's immigrants, refugees and newcomers, Mayor Byron W. Brown said in a written statement.

To kick off local Welcoming Week events, Brown spoke Friday to dozens of new citizens during a naturalization ceremony at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site.

Brown also noted that Buffalo recently ranked 32 out of 100 cities in the first New American Economy Cities Index, a national assessment of local integration policies and socioeconomic outcomes.
