New project chronicles Buffalo restaurateur's storied career

Mike Milkie, owner of Milkie's on Elmwood, has owned restaurants and nightclubs in Buffalo since 1959.

In "If You're Going to Do it the Right Way, Do it the Milkie Way," author Kristy Mangel tells the story of his career, beginning with his first restaurant, the Falling Star at 4212 Union Road in Cheektowaga.

At one time, Milkie owned a total of 10 restaurants concurrently. Restaurants ranged from mall kiosks to fine dining and included such names as the Forvm in the Main Place Mall, the Miner's Ten in the University Plaza and the Old Docket on Court Street.

A release party will be held for the limited-edition book from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 22 in Milkie's, 522 Elmwood Ave.
