The post position draw for this year’s Grade 1 Ricoh Woodbine Mile was held in the Walking Ring Tent at Woodbine Racetrack this afternoon where a field of nine was drawn for Saturday’s $800,000 race.
One of the biggest days of the year in suburban Toronto will feature a number of stakes races with the feature one mile race around the signature E.P. Taylor turf course being the main event.
The 22nd running of the Woodbine Mile is a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” event, the winner qualifying for the BC Mile at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4. There are five American-based horses in the field. Post time for the Mile is 4:48 p.m. on Saturday.
Three-time Canadian Olympic sprint medalist Andre De Grasse served as the celebrity drawmaster for Wednesday’s draw.
Saturday’s card will also include three other graded stakes, including the $300,000 Grade 1 Northern Dancer.
Delta Prince was listed as the morning line favorite and will exit from post No.3 for trainer Jimmy Jerkens.
Mr. Havercamp will look to become the first locally based horse to win the Mile in 10 years (Rahy’s Attorney, 2008).
The News will be onsite in suburban Toronto on Saturday reporting on the Woodbine Mile and the day’s undercard.
