Amherst, Clarence churches host wide-ranging breakfast speaker series

The first Arab-American Muslim woman to hold public office in this area will speak at North Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Forest Road, Amherst, later this month.

Mona Abdulla, a member of the Lackawanna School Board and the daughter of immigrant parents from Yemen, will speak at 9 a.m. Sept. 22 about the effects of the Arab Spring on Yemen and about its civil war. A light breakfast is offered for $5. Call 632-1330 to RSVP.

At 9 a.m. Oct. 13, Mary Jane Shonn will share photos of her experience walking a section of the Way of St. James, which ends at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in northeast Spain. This presentation takes place at Amherst Presbyterian Church, 151 Youngs Road.

And at 9 a.m. Nov. 10, panelists will discuss and take questions on solitary confinement. This event takes place in Clarence Presbyterian Church, 9675 Main St.
