The Town of Amherst Assessor's Office is holding information sessions to help seniors navigate enrollment changes for the state's Enhanced STAR and Low Income Senior property-tax exemptions.
A new state law requires people over 65 to verify their income this year to continue receiving the Enhanced STAR exemption.
Further, people have to register separately for Enhanced STAR and the Low Income Senior exemptions. That requires filing two forms instead of the one used previously.
The Assessor's Office will mail out applications and information on the programs, including information verification, the week of Oct. 7. The deadline for enrollment remains March 1.
The office is holding information sessions from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 17 in the Eggertsville Snyder Library Branch, 4622 Main St., and from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the town Senior Center, 370 John James Audubon Parkway. For more information, call 631-7038, or visit the town's website.
