Last fall, Judy and Alan Duchan moved into Canterbury Woods Gates Circle, after selling their home of 43 years in the Parkside neighborhood.
This is how Judy Duchan, a retired University at Buffalo professor, and Alan Duchan, a retired economist at Canisius College, described their new apartment at Canterbury Woods, a continuing care retirement community:
"Our 2,000-square-foot penthouse apartment is newly built, bright, and modern, with gorgeous views of Buffalo. We downsized and moved here a year ago and are still awed by its features. We are surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows and two terraces overlooking Gates Circle on one side, and City Hall on the other.
"Inside we opted for bold colors for accent walls: teal to show off our mask collection and red to complement our original art and bedspread. Our open-plan design comprised of kitchen, dining, and living rooms pivots around an arresting chandelier. Our furniture and artwork revels in the brightness of the apartment. Our den features a wall of custom-built open-shelving, housing our books and our collection of artifacts and small sculptures.
"And we love ogling beautiful Elmwood Village homes on our way to the shops and coffee houses on Elmwood Avenue. Life is good," they wrote.
Do you love your house enough to show it off? This could be your chance.
The Buffalo News is looking for other beautiful local homes and the stories behind them and their décor. Those chosen will be displayed in a weekly feature at buffalonews.com and could be chosen as Home of the Month in a Sunday edition of The Buffalo News.
If you are interested, tell us about your home in 150 words or less, and email 10 images (in .jpg form) of the interior and exterior to email@example.com.
Those chosen for BuffaloNews.com will be contacted by Home and Style Editor Susan Martin. A phone number is helpful. Single-family homes, condominiums, lofts and apartments are eligible.
The News will include your name and the city or town in which you reside but not your exact address.
