High School Extra: East Aurora notches cross-country wins

East Aurora’s cross country teams dominated the team competition at the Knox Invitational. The Blue Devils won both the boys and girls events at the 2.5-mile course at Knox State Park Polo Grounds.

Eighth grader Megan McLaughlin from East Aurora won the girls event, covering the course in 15:13.26. She beat out her teammate, sophomore Karis Ertel, who finished in 15:46.88.

Niagara Falls took second in the girls team scoring and Alden third.

Iroquois junior Ryan Mitchell beat out three East Aurora runners to win the boys event in 13:15.62. Thomas Wlodarczyk of East Aurora took second in 13:31.00.

West Seneca East finished second in the boys team scoring while Iroquois was third.

Carey notches shutout

Devon Carey recorded his third shutout of the season as Tonawanda earned a 3-0 win over Springville in an ECIC IV boys soccer match.

Carey recorded eight saves as the Warriors improved to 3-1 overall.

Alex Taylor scored two goals while Hunter Hollock added one tally for Tonawanda’s offense.

Ahmed paces Cheektowaga

Tyler Andrzejewski made nine saves to earn the shutout in Cheektowaga’s 3-0 win over Lake Shore in an ECIC III boys soccer game. Sulton Ahmed scored twice.

Will East moves to 4-0

Williamsville East boys soccer remained undefeated with an 8-0 win over West Seneca East in ECIC II.

Trey Buscaglia scored three goals with an assist as Williamsville East improved to 4-0 overall.

Hollins leads OP

Kasey Hollins scored both goals for Orchard Park in a 2-0 win over Williamsville North in an ECIC I girls soccer matchup. Rebecca Roman recorded three saves in the shutout as the Quakers improved to 3-0.

Newfane blanks Barker

Newfane picked up its first win of the season in Niagara-Orleans league girls soccer with an 8-0 win over Barker. Taylor Heschke had four goals and two assists while Madalyn Traverse had a goal and three assists. Traverse split time with Lauren Gaughran in net for the shutout.
