Two men critically injured in overnight shooting in Niagara Falls

Two men are in Erie County Medical Center after being were shot in Niagara Falls late Sunday night, according to the Niagara Falls Police.

One victim was shot in the head and underwent emergency surgery and is listed in critical condition; the second victim was shot once in the chest and, following surgery, was listed as critical but stable, police said. The names of the victims have not been released.

The men were found just before midnight in the driver and passenger seats of a car with three flat tires in the 600 block of Niagara Street, police said.

Police said that a fight occurred in a parking lot in the 8800 block of Cayuga Drive, with one suspect pulling a gun and firing at the two men in the car. The driver, who was shot in the chest, drove downtown via the Niagara Parkway. Police believe he was heading to Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital. Police said the driver turned on to Niagara Street, but into the eastbound lanes traveling west, and it appeared he then drove over the curb separating the lanes, which blew out the tires.

Niagara Falls Police detectives are continuing to investigate.
