Steuben Trust on Monday opened its first branch in Erie County, as the Steuben County-based bank tries to make greater inroads in the Buffalo Niagara region.
Its new branch, at 8503 Main St. in Clarence, is a renovated former First Niagara Bank branch. That location, at Harris Hill Road, closed in October 2016, in the wake of KeyBank's acquisition of First Niagara. Steuben Trust bought the property in late 2017. The bank has had a commercial lending office in Elma since 2015.
Steuben Trust is one of five banks that have recently added locations in the region or are preparing to do so soon. Bank on Buffalo opened a branch in Wheatfield in July, which will serve as a temporary home until a Niagara Falls branch is built. Evans Bank plans to open a downtown branch in September, while Tompkins Bank of Castile and Northwest Bank plan to open locations by year's end.
