Lackawanna man sentenced to 24 months in prison on drug conviction

A Lackawanna man, one of 18 people arrested from a large-scale drug dealing operation in and around the Gates Housing Project in Lackawanna, was sentenced Monday by Senior U.S. Judge William M. Skretny to 24 months in prison, U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy Jr. announced.

Sharon Thompson, 26, was convicted for crack cocaine distribution within 1,000 feet of a public housing project and conspiracy to retaliate against an informant.

Prosecutors said Thompson sold crack cocaine May 7, 2014, to a confidential informant working with the Lackawanna Police Department near the housing project. Thompson and another person also assaulted someone they thought was cooperating with police on Oct. 11, 2014, stealing cash and a cellphone while the victim was unconscious, prosecutors said.
