Embezzler from Lockport auto parts store avoids prison

A former employee who stole $9,371 from Advanced Auto Parts in Lockport last year was sentenced Monday to probation for five years, in part because he repaid almost one-third of the money in the past six months.

Zachary W. Adams impressed Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon through his performance on six months of interim probation, which enabled him to avoid a maximum four-year prison term for fourth-degree grand larceny.

Adams, 34, of Upper Mountain Road, Cambria, has paid back $3,000 so far, Assistant Public Defender David E. Blackley told Sheldon.

Adams stole the money between May and October 2017 by filling out fake return forms for overstocked items, Assistant District Attorney Ryan K. Parisi said at the time of Adams' guilty plea in January.
