Construction is underway on the next phase of restoring car traffic to Main Street, the section between Exchange and Scott streets.
The $22.5 million Lower Main Street initiative is part of the larger Cars Sharing Main Street project from Tupper Street to Canalside that has already returned traffic in the 500, 600 and 700 blocks.
Mayor Byron W. Brown was joined Monday afternoon by Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, Rep. Brian Higgins and representatives from the city's Public Works Department at HarborCenter to provide details about work that will take place over the next six months.
Crews will demolish the foundation of the former Metro Rail station, relocate several utilities onto Scott Street and work on poles that support the wiring that powers the train, said City Engineer Michael J. Finn.
