Buffalo man, 22, admits to June fatal shooting

A 22-year-old Buffalo man on Friday admitted killing a 21-year-old man in a daytime shooting in June, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office.

Ziykeyun D. Prather pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder in the June 7 homicide of Jomar Lopez-Escalera of Buffalo, prosecutors said. Lopez-Escalera was shot at about 3 p.m. on Fillmore Avenue near Riley Street.

Prather was arrested by Buffalo police later that day and remains held without bail. He faces up to 20 years to life in prison at his sentencing, which is scheduled for Nov. 8, the District Attorney's Office said.
